Radiology and Pathology images are used as key components of baseline disease classification; images are also increasingly used as biomarkers to assess treatment response. Reproducible and standardized methods of image analysis and quantification are crucial components of deep integrative studies.  BMI faculty efforts in this area include development of methods for labeling anatomic and micro-anatomic structures found in images, systems software and techniques for management and analysis of very large image data, and techniques and middleware components for sharing this labeling information in a computational grid architecture.  Our faculty and CCI collaborators have also been active in development of image segmentation and classification algorithms designed to help automate the image labeling process.
